1. How do I get a domain name (www.whatever.com)?
A "domain name" is the unique address that people will type into their browser to go directly to your Web site. For example, the domain name for this Web site is www.websitesbymark.com. After deciding on a name and a few alternatives, (you'll be surprised what's already taken!) the name will need to be checked for availability, registered and paid for. This is something you can easily do yourself at one of the many available online registrars for under $10 per year. As your Web site designer I will handle the registration process for you if desired.

IMPORTANT! If you allow someone else to register your domain name make sure that you or your company is listed as the owner of the name. If not, you could easily lose your name down the road.

2. What is the process of getting a Web site?
  1. Think about what information you'd like to have on your site such as what products or services you offer. Also, any graphics, photographs or company logo you'd like included. It's a good idea to look at other Web sites to get ideas of what you do and don't like.
  2. Decide on a "domain name". Ideally this will be the name of your business or organization (www.mybusiness.com). This is not always possible due to the large number of names already taken so have a few other choices just in case.
  3. Contact by price quote form email or phone to discuss your ideas and answer any questions.
  4. Return the signed contract with the deposit and any necessary text, images, logos etc. that will be included on your Web site.
  5. I will create rough drafts of your site for you to preview using a temporary address on the Web.
  6. After final design approval from you and receiving any remaining balance due, your new Web site will be uploaded (published) to it's permanent location on the web for all to access. Back to questions

6.What about updating my Web site?
Websites that include time sensitive content such as calendars, prices, specials etc. will require periodic updating. Your site can include client-editable areas and a calendar that you can easily update yourself using a password protected interface. Other updates such as new pages, adding images and major changes will be billed at a reasonable rate. Back to questions
